Here For Families

Helping Families Help Each Other

The number of families facing food insecurity is greater than ever. So is the desire to keep holiday traditions alive.

The season has always been about family coming together to celebrate, share meals, and make memories. Those traditions are evolving for many of our neighbors in these challenging economic times. Instead of generations coming together from different homes, many families now live together under one roof—parents, grandparents, and children—all relying on each other to make ends meet.

At one of our recent pantries, we met Thomas. He was facing a surprise layoff from his job of 16 years, Thomas is counting on social security to ensure three generations of family in his home have food on the table and a roof over their heads.

“It’s tough,” he told us. “I’ve got my granddaughter, my son, and my wife to support. This food is a big help.”

Sustaining Hope and Traditions

Assistance from his local food pantry ensures that Thomas doesn’t have to make the difficult choice between paying bills, buying lifesaving medicine, or eating. This helps throughout the year, and especially during the holidays when a traditional meal provides so much comfort.

Feeding Northeast Florida and our partners work tirelessly to ensure that families like Thomas’s who are experiencing challenges this year have access to the fresh, healthy groceries they need to survive and thrive.

Food nourishes the body and the mind.

By keeping traditions alive, we keep hope alive. We allow families and individuals to escape survival mode and look forward to better circumstances.

“I’m so grateful for the support we’ve received,” Thomas told us, “and I can’t wait to give back when we get to a better place.”
