Helping Our Nation’s Heroes

Supporting Veterans

Out of the more than 40 million people the Feeding America network serve each year, 20 percent of households include someone who has served or is currently serving in the U.S. military. It is unacceptable that anyone goes hungry, but it’s particularly troubling that millions of Americans who’ve protected and served our country are left without enough to eat.

Statistics

  • According to the Greater Jacksonville USO, approximately 7,500 of our active-duty military living on the First Coast is food insecure to some degree.
  • Research compiled by Veteran Affairs estimates that 8-25 percent of the veteran population is food insecure which on the First Coast equates to 3,000 – 9,300 people.

Jose’s Story

The pandemic caused unexpected expenses for QM2 (SW) Rivera US NAVY and his family. Rivera turned to the food pantry at USO Mayport supported by FNEFL and was able to get the healthy food he needed to feed his family. Learn more and how USO Mayport and Feeding Northeast Florida are working together to solve military hunger.

Hungry To Help?

Just as our military heroes provided us with safety and security beyond our borders, we must, in turn, provide them with a safe and secure future here at home. Let’s honor our courageous service men and women by providing them with nutritious meals and recognizing them for their unwavering commitment to our nation.
