First Coast News and TEGNA Foundation Award $25,000 in Community Grants to Aid 10 Jacksonville-Area Nonprofit Organizations

Jacksonville, FL – November 23, 2021 – First Coast News and the TEGNA Foundation, the charitable foundation sponsored by TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA), has awarded 10 area nonprofit organizations community grants totaling $25.000.

Community grants in the First Coast area are aimed at addressing needs made more urgent by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, including homelessness, domestic abuse, food insecurity, military employment and children’s cancer care.

Among the grant recipients is Feeding Northeast Florida.

  • The grant will support the food bank’s childhood hunger program which provides snack packs – packages of nutritious shelf-stable food products – to children who rely on the free and reduced lunch they receive at school. The snack packs provide a source of food to bridge the weekend meal gap. The grant from First Coast News and the TENGA Foundation will help provide 575 snack packs to children experiencing hunger in Duval County.

“Here at First Coast News, we believe in making the First Coast a better place to live every day”, said Rob Mennie, President and General Manager of First Coast News. “The organizations we are able to help with Tegna Foundation grants are doing this and more. We are thrilled to partner with so many worthy organizations who are doing phenomenal things in our community.”

“We are proud to partner with First Coast News to be a force for positive change in the First Coast area,” said Dave Lougee, president and CEO, TEGNA. “We were recently named one of the 50 most community-minded companies in the United States for the second consecutive year by The Civic 50, an honor made possible by our people and their passion for serving the greater good in the local communities we serve.”

The TEGNA Foundation Community Grants program addresses the diverse local community needs in communities served by TEGNA. Most grants awarded fall into one of the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goal Categories: Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, and Zero Hunger. Other goals supported include: No Poverty, Reduced Inequality, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Life Below Water, Peace and Justice, and Strong Institutions.

Grants are vetted by a committee of employees at each station, including the station general manager, and approved by the TEGNA Foundation Board of Directors. For information or to apply for a TEGNA Foundation Community Grant, click here.
