It’s a necessity not everyone uses, but those who do have to pay out of their own pocket. Every month, thousands of women and girls in our community must decide if they will buy period products, food, or even medicine. Feeding Northeast Florida wants to ensure that everyone is empowered to manage their menstrual cycle safely, with confidence, and without shame. No one should be limited by something as natural as a period.
Why It Matters
One in five women living in low-income households reports a lack of access to period supplies. This impacts more than 100,000 women and girls in Northeast Florida. The health and safety issue is linked to using unsanitary substitute products, stretching product usage, and missing work or school. The financial strain only grows larger, knowing menstrual products are not eligible for purchase through federal nutrition programs.
How It Works
The program dedicated to eliminating period poverty merged with our food bank in 2024. The partnership helps us leverage our purchasing and distribution capabilities to reach more neighbors. During the first year, we were able to distribute about 173,000 tampons and pads across the more than 400 partners and food programs we work with. Together, we can make sure everyone can maintain their dignity every day of the month.
How You Can Help
Volunteering – Helping us sort and distribute supplies is a vital part of our program.
Donating – Contributing funding to Renewing Dignity is the most effective way to make an impact since it allows us to buy additional products for those who need them.
